Bokeo to Dien Bien Phu

This bus trip took about 19 hours over 2days.
We departed Bokeo on 9th of June on a very unroad worthy bus! We clattered banged and graunched our way through mountainous windy roads.Toilet stops were when ever the driver needed them on the road side.
We stopped at Oudonxay for the night,a very average town.We tried 5 hotels and guest houses before one manager begrudenly took us in.All the locals were indiferent and were totally expressionless.Very different to the friendly Thai people.
Next morning the bus that was supposed to leave at 7.30am departed at 8.45am.We had an interesting breakfast. No not bugs! Rice cooked in Bamboo.
The next leg we had a very comfortable airconditioned bus on the same mountainous roads.Great scenery.Little villages, rice fields, rubber and teak plantations and corn growing every where.
Those who didnt have cast iron stomachs spent the trip with their heads in plastic bags.(not plesant)Not us.
We climbed and climbed and at the top we had to leave the bus to clear Laos customs etc.We all had to be processed individually which took some time.It was about 10degrees a very plesant change.
Then we drove for 20mins and had to repeat the process to enter Vietnam.
There was an instant change in the landscape and the houses. The road became a dirt track.Very interesting in a huge bus coming down the mountains.
Then came the terraced paddy fields the flat paddy fields and eventually at 5.30 pm the city of Dien Bien Phu.
