We decided to see the real people of the Chiang Mei area we would have to head for the hills with a local guide Wooth. We found him again by chance!
We were driven to the boat station on the Mae Kok river where we boarded a long boat and were driven at high speed upstream. Many sights along the way.
An hour up river Wooht was waiting on the river bank for us so after a scramble up a steep bank we were taken 5mins up the road where the local tea plantation owner drove us up into the hills on red clay tracks.
At the end of the track was the village of the Akah tribe all going about their daily business.
We treked up hill through mountain rice fields jungle, then an hour or so later came to another village where we stopped an were cooked a delicious lunch and drank cupfuls of their local tea.So good I had to buy some!
More up hill on very narrow tracks then down to a tea plantation.More up hill to another village then a 2hour walk up and down through a small rubber plantation back to the road and the wonderful hot springs here we finished with a cold shower and a great soak. Then a well earned beer.Wooth said we walked 10ks.Not bad in 35degrees c.
