Our time in Brussels was over all too soon and we were on our way again heading to Italy, through Luxembourg and France with a small diversion through Switzerland to Bern where we met up with Sabina and Juerg.
Our meeting place was at the Marzili Pool (below the Parliment building.) A very popular place for the people or Bern to meet on a hot summers day.
Juerg and Sabina had just finished a swim/float down the fast flowing, very cold Aare River along with hundreds of others. They are a tough bunch!
We had a great catch up over some delicious refreshments then it was time to say Goodbye and continue our journey through Switzerland.
Up into the mountains we drove through the fabulous Swiss country side , thinking we were doing very well with our navigation skills we drove onward and upward. The GPS keep going on about a ferry, we didn't understand until there was no more road! We had to drive onto a covered wagon with all the other waiting cars then 20 mins later we had travelled under an enormous mountain into another Swiss valley. At this stage we were a little lost as the GPS was having problems with the mountainous terrain and we were having problems decifering the local signage. We eventually found a petrol station in Brig and bought a map.As it was 9.00pm and getting dark we decided to get the next car ferry (to save 1 1/2hours over the mountains) and 10 mins later we popped out into Italy, in darkness. We could see many small villages in the distance , but eering on the side of caution we decided to find a quite road and sit/sleep it out until day light.
Dawn arrived at 6.00 am so we were on the road again with a steep, winding decent from the mountains through tunnel after tunnel, we could only catch glimpses of the picturesque countryside. We opted to pay tolls so made it to Marina de Pisa in record time.
